As discussed in bug 1177819 comment 13, it might be useful for isolation's sake if the crashtest 483584-2.svg drove its animations a bit more declaratively.

In particular:
 - start with no SVG animations applying & pause
 - Seek to a time where the animations are applying
 - Seek back to a time when the animations are not applying.
 - Complete the crashtest.

I've got an Ubuntu 10.04 VM with a Nightly build, which this crashtest insta-hangs, too (per bug 547333 comment 18). I'll make sure the adjusted crashtest still hangs that build before checking in any changes here.

Here are the tweaks I intend to make. I verified that I still insta-hang when loading this in Nightly (er, Minefield) 20100219.
...and I verified that ./mach crashtest dom/smil/crashtests/ still seems fine (doesn't get stuck on this test or anything) in a trunk build as well (and that we never bypass the test if I drop the "removeAttribute" line -- so reftest-wait is indeed doing its job.)
Tree's closed right now, but I'll land this test tweak later today when it has reopened.
