Steps to reproduce:

nothing- developed issue in the last week.


Actual results:

letters fail to display- have to minimize the window and redisplay to refresh-

Do you see the problem when started in safe mode?
 see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode

If it does not happen in safe mode, disable hardware acceleration at tools | options | advanced general  and restart Thunderbird

Do you still see the problem?

And, please post in this bug report, the text (not a screen shot please) of the graphics section from help | troubleshooting

Very likely NVIDIA has a newer driver for the 2000M than lenovo offers. 
I updated my lenovo w520 quadro 1000M driver from nvidia and suffered no ill effects

Hi Jeff,

Do you still have problems in version 45 with HWA enabled?

If you do still see problems, is it  better with (in this order)
1. current beta version from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/channel/ ?
2. latest NVIDIA driver (latest drivers are dated Dec 14, 2016) ?

Jeff indicates he is no longer using Thunderbird
