From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.7) Gecko/20011221
BuildID: 2001122108

In Mozilla Mail, when reading messages (normal three-pane layout), messages with
attachments show an enormous header area which is useless and ugly and leaves
little room for the actual message.

You can collapse the header area to avoid the problem, but this is undesirable
for messages without attachments, since then info such as who the message was
sent to is invisible.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Open Mozilla Mail in three-pane layout. Set View Headers to Normal. Browse some
messages.

Actual Results: Messages without attachments look fine: the header area shows a
few compact lines, enough to see who sent the message, to whom, what the subject
is, and the header area stops there. But messages with attachments have the
attachment pane on the right; it is huge, large enough for a dozen attachments,
and consumes a lot of the screen on a small (laptop) display.

Expected Results: Expect that the attachment pane *not* have a predetermined
vertical size, but only use as much space as would be available based on the
other displayed headers anyway. Should get a scroll bar in the case that you
actually have a lot of attachments.

I use the Little Mozilla theme if that is relevant.
I'm trying to attach a screenshot here, but Bugzilla won't let me: browser
uploads tons of data (it is a full-size GIF) but then says "No file was provided
or the field was empty" (it wasn't). Maybe there is a size restriction or
something. Let me know if you want me to mail you a screenshot: ask for
/tmp/moz-118827.gif and I can send it to you.

Thanks laurel@netscape.com for updating, but I am not a Netscape employee and
have no such address. :-)
Jennifer Glick <jglick@netscape.com> basically owns the mail user interface, so
the cc was for feedback not as a CC to an alternative you, although that
probably should have been explained in a comment.
Oops, sorry Jennifer! Don't run into my last name too often.
Me either. Nice to meet ya jglick. :-)

I do have probs in Mozilla Mail with attachments, too. Take a look at my
screenshot (Build ID 2002061213, HP-UX 11, KDE 1.1.2):

  http://www.ae.op.dlr.de/~hippmann/temp/mozilla_3.gif

The attachment pane and the long To-address need too much horizontal space; the
scrollbar of the mail list is not accessible. The same behaviour occures on my
Linux machine.

The attachment box's height is only about four lines these days, so until someone comes up with a better idea (and, no, TB's attachment box isn't), this is WFM now.
