Now, when hovering over archived video pictures we do an AJAX fetch of all the thumbnail URLs. That's a quick query but it's bound to be called a lot and there's no reason not to cache it quite heavily.
We switched to using JPG for screencaps and we've installed optisorl for PNGs.
