User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0 Iceweasel/38.2.0
Build ID: 20150812105456

Steps to reproduce:

Create a new "mail account" within Thunderbird, attempting to connect to my student's account at my local uni.

Please note: These are technically three separate issues. Maybe you want to split this up appropriately. All three issues affect Autoconfig.

The attached screenshot demonstrates issue 1), and *only* that issue.

Note that, since the "ISP" information seems to be fetched from online sources, the old version of my thunderbird installation (technically icedove from Debian testing) should be irrelevant for issues 2) and 3) (... and 4).

Actual results:

1) The UI layout wastes space and does not allow me to see parts of the displayed text (I guess someone hardcoded pixel widths). See the screenshot for a demonstration.

2) A very bad guess for the domain was made (It guessed ".stud.uni-saarland.de", note the extra dot at the start)

3) Even when given the correct domain (see far below), during "Test again" it didn't attempt to check the one configuration that would have worked.

Expected results:

1) The text "Automatisch er..." and "Keine Verbindu..." should have been fully visible, given the tons of horizontal space.

2) The guess should be either "stud.uni-saarland.de" or the correct data (see below)

3) The configuration "Port 993; SSL: SSL/TLS; Auth: Password, normal" should have been attempted during the phase where every possible configuration is being tried out.

4*) In addition to these three issues, it may be nice to add a university with 18k students and several thousand employees to the list of "ISP"s. If you're interested, I'm very willing to help you extract and complete any relevant information from the following (authoritative and up-to-date) sources:

Component: Untriaged → Account Manager
Were you in the uni network while trying to set up? Or elsewhere?
I don't quite see how this matters (the SMTP, POP3 and IMAP server domain names would stay the same), but no, I was not inside the uni network.
I have too much spare time, so I updated to the current Debian testing version (38.6.0), created a new profile, and tries again.

All bugs are unchanged. 1), 2), and 3) still happen.

I'd still like to help with 4)
Severity: normal → S3
