Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:40.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/40.0
Build ID: 20150819100600

Steps to reproduce:

I use "classic" variant of Firefox GUI with traditional menus in Ubuntu 14.04. I also usually have Firefox window maximized. Select something from a Firefox menu in the menubar and close any opened dialog. Select something again from a Firefox menu in the menubar.

Actual results:

Every second time I select something (click on) in the Firefox menus in the menubar the Firefox window exits from maximized state as a side effect...

If I manually change the size of the Firefox window then that size is not affected by any menu operations.

The same behavior is also present in Thunderbird.

Expected results:

The Firefox window should have remained in it state.

Hi John,

Can you add steps on how to switch to a classic GUI? Is there a specific add-on you're using in order to achieve this? Thanks.

Yes, I use Classic Theme Restorer addon for restoring classic GUI in Firefox.

But this is actually not something that is Firefox specific. The problem described affects also LibreOffice, Gnome Terminal, ... in Ubuntu 14.04. My guess is that it is Unity specific. I have filed a bug with Ubuntu on this.
