User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:40.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/40.0
Build ID: 20150827181457

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to any site where you can download something (for example https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ ).
2. Click a link to cause the subwindow that asks to open or to save the file to appear.
3. Repeat the last step to cause another such subwindow to appear.
4. In one of the both subwindows click on "OK".
5. Switch to the another subwindow and try to click on something.

Actual results:

The subwindow doesn't react to input anymore (for example it can't be closed).

Additional notes:

Initially I have noticed this on a site which starts the download after a few seconds but also provides a direct download link. After clicking the direct download link and choosing a file location another download subwindow appeared and I wasn't able to close it which was a bit annoying.
WFM with FF40 on Win 7.
Hi reporter,

I've failed to reproduce this issue on my end. I've tested on the latest release(42.0) and latest Nightly(45.0a1).

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0
Build ID: 20151029151421

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0
Build ID: 20151201030226

Also, I've tried to reproduce on your specified version of Firefox(40.0), but the bug didn't reproduce.

No matter how many download windows were opened, I could interact with each one. Can you provide any other websites where you encountered the issue, maybe the one that starts the download after a few seconds in order to investigate further ?

Also, can you please try to reproduce this on your end using the latest release(42.0) and latest Nightly(45.0a1) with a new Firefox profile (maybe safe mode activated) and provide the results? Sometimes custom settings or installed addons can provoke this kind of issues.

Thanks,
Paul.

This issue does still appear with Firefox 42.0 on downloading something from the linked site in the startpost. Maybe it is just a GLib/GTK+ issue (on my system GLib 2.47.3 and GTK+ 2.24.28 are installed (besides GTK+ 3 which is not used by this Firefox version)).

Hi reporter,

Can you please check if this bug reproduces on a different machine without GLib/GTK+ installed and provide the results? I don't have any toolkit installed and my download windows are correctly working. So it may be caused by this tool kits.

You can also try to reproduce this with a new Firefox profile and / or safe mode. Maybe it's related to a custom setting on the profile or an installed addon.

Thanks,
Paul.

I prefer to stay on Linux.

If your Firefox isn't builded using GTK+ how is it builded then on Linux?

Creating a new profile doesn't effectively fix this issue but I have noticed that you also need the setting "Always ask me where to save files" to be set in about:preferences#general.

I am assigning a component for the issue in order to involve the developers on this. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on this could help us with more informations.

Thanks,
Paul
