I have added this to user.js:

 user_pref("mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new", true);

Unfortunately, moz attempts to check folders that contain subfolders, resulting
in this error:

"The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: SELECT failed:
Can't open mail/foo: not a selectable mailbox."

This is the same error that you will get when manually clicking on a parent
folder. I don't want to close over a dozen dialog boxes every 10 minutes when I
check my mail. Is there a way to prevent these when automatically checking IMAP
folders? Specifying which folders NOT to check would be a cumbersome solution.
I'd like mozilla to just move on to the next folder without complaining.

IMAP server: imap-2000 on Red Hat 7.2
Bug 18266 has not been marked fixed so you can't complain that it doesn't work...

I had selected the box "Server supports folders that contain sub-folders and
messages" thinking that I needed to do so in order to view subfolders. After
reading it again, I realized that I missed the emphasis of this message
("sub-folders *and* messages"). By not selecting this option, mozilla works as
expected with UW-IMAP.
This is operator error, not dup of bug 18266!

Yes! For UW IMAP, you need to uncheck "Server supports folders that contain
sub-folders and messages".
