I cannot get mozilla to authenticate with my isp's news server
(auth.news.easynet.co.uk), either on win2k or Linux.
Instead of a complete set of newsgroups, the server is only showing a couple of
alt.* and free.* newsgroups. I've confirmed the settings with IE on w2k, which
is happy.

I appreciate that this isn't going to be very reproduceable, but if there are
any pointers to where I can get useful debugging info from, I'll do that.

tc
This doesn't look like it is an authentication problem - the newsgroups that I'm
seeing in mozilla are a subset of the newer newgroups visible in IE.

tc
Tim, can you please try the instructions in bug 39862? We have a backend
feature called Pushed Authentication, which some servers require before showing
newsgroups available for subscription. Sounds like your problem. If you need
any help, let me know privately via mail.
Tried this hack. Still doesn't work.
It looks difficult to reproduce for you without more info on what's flying
between mozilla and nntp server - is there any way to get moz to spit this out?

tc
Here's a log of an interaction:
-fire up news client
-select and expand news server
-select 'subscribe to newsgroups'
-select 'ok'
-close news client

nb - instructions for logging need updating with w2k - from nt, pick advanced
tab, and then environment variables
nb2 - moz overwrites the log on launch (not just launch of nntp client)
nb3 - the first time that I tried the interaction, there didn't appear to be
anything logged as passing between client and server (but then I lost that log
- see nb2 :-)
Confirming, based on log.

Does this still occur with TB 2.0.0.14 or recent Trunk builds? If no response within 3 weeks, I will close this bug as RESO INCO.
