Details
Sometimes the browser and email client are unable to authenticate using my smartcard certificate. I get the error "an unknown SSL has occurred -12222". If I remove my smarcard and reinsert it, I'm prompted for my PIN and then I'm able to SSL client-auth again to my web server or SSL/IMAP server. It's not predictably reproducable but happens at least every day.

SSL_ERROR_SIGN_HASHES_FAILURE nelson, any idea why we would get this error on a regular basis?

I might guess that there's a bug in either the particular smart card's PKCS#11 "module", or in NSS's PK11 "wrapper" functions that call the module.
