According to post in Yandex blog ( https://yandex.ru/blog/company/perestavlyaem-slovari ) Yandex.Slovari ( https://slovari.yandex.ru ) will be EOL on March 31, 2016. In this post Yandex proposes to use Yandex.Translate ( https://translate.yandex.ru ) as replacement for Yandex.Slovari.
Russian l10n uses Yandex.Slovari search plugin in Firefox and Thunderbird. I'm ready to prepare patch which will replace it with Yandex.Translate, but probably Mozilla needs to contact Yandex to get permission to use Yandex.Translate in its products.
Given the short timeframe, it might make sense to first remove slovari.yandex.ru/ to make sure we're not shipping it in the next release of Firefox, then figure out how to add translate.yandex.ru

For reference, current searchplugin.

The favicon on translate.yandex.ru is good, we need to extract 16px and 32px and create an .ico

@Joanne
Do we need to contact Yandex to include translate.yandex.ru (currently we're using slovari.yandex.ru), or use specific search parameters?

Adding Remco, who now manages the Yandex relationship and recently met with them.

Can someone describe in more detail what/how/why we're using Slovari today and if it includes specific codes?

Is the question to ask Yandex for permission to use Yandex.Translate due to EOL of Slovari?

I can follow up with Yandex once I have the context.

I see a 'from' parameter set to 'fx3', but that was pretty common during the Firefox 3.* searchplugins setup

I believe that the questions are (Joanne please correct if I'm wrong):
* Do we need an explicit authorization from Yandex to include it?
* Do we need to add specific codes to the searchplugin?
I was not aware that we had this service included in the search plugins list. If we are going to change it, we should definitely confirm with Yandex. This is not included in our current commercial agreement, so this is completely outside of that.

Thanks Alexander. Feel free to land this in beta and request a new sign-off (for anyone not checking, the patch remove the obsolete searchplugin).

Also CCed Philipp so he's aware of the removal from Thunderbird.
