Margaret, is this something we'd do in Fennec itself?

I'd be interested to know what's happening differently on desktop vs. mobile. This sounds like a platform issue, redirecting to snorp.

I can reproduce this, but not sure why there is a redirect loop. I'll investigate some more today.
Flags: needinfo?(snorp)
My gut feeling, though, is that they are serving us a JS redirect that uses window.location (like t.co) instead of a header-based one, so it's more difficult to detect those.

Hello, I managed to reproduce this issue following the steps from the description on the latest Nightly build with a Samsung Galaxy S8+ Android 8.0.0. Every time when I tried to access the link, I got redirected to the play store. Marking this as NEW. Thanks, Andrei

Seems likely this still affects 66 but let's confirm that.
Would this also affect Focus?

This doesn't affect Focus, because before redirecting to other apps it asks the user about leaving the browser and that can be stopped.
