Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.11; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160502172042

Steps to reproduce:

[feature request]
I often like to see the URL of a link, by hovering over it. Firefox has this feature. I consider it very userful and even a security improvement.

On hovering any link in the message text (html), the underlying URL could be shown at the bottom, as a small status field.

Thanks for considering!

When you enable the statusbar you would see the link target. And also other informations when you for example check the mail server etc.
Isn't the status bar enabled by default anyway?
Yes, and yes. Perhaps some addon is blocking this for the user?
Immanuel, do you have the status bar? (view | toolbars | status bar)
If you do, does problem occur in safe mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

The alternative is bug 698597

On Mac OS X the status bar is disabled by default.
I now found it under settings > status bar. It works fine. Thanks a lot for your hint.

I'm not in safe mode and have no relevant extensions installed.
I agree, it's almost duplicate to Bug 698597. I'll vote for this.

Thanks indeed for your quick response!
