Unfortunately I find planet.mozilla.org too noisy for my interests (technical stuff mostly related to Gecko/Firefox/Rust/Servo). For example, as of writing, the last 10 posts on planet.mozilla.org aren't relevant at all for me. I'm not saying that these posts are useless or not important, but it is impossible for everyone to be interested in everything.

I was going to just create a filtered feed for my own needs, but I think many others[0] in the Mozilla community would find a "core tech" planet variant useful.

mhoye, is this something you would be willing to add as e.g. planet.mozilla.org/core-tech? I am happy to produce the initial stripped down config.ini based on the main planet config.

I support this in principle, but I'm not sure about the implementation. I'd like to be able to do a lot more to make Planet more accessible and better organized, but I don't want to do that by adding a new subPlanet for every new topic.

I want to think about this and discuss it with my fellow peers.

One of the things we could do here now that Quantum is announced is have a Quantum-specific Planet. It looks like a major rewrite of Planet isn't in the cards at the moment, but this is achievable.

dbryant, what do you think? There value in this?

Seems like there's interest and value in some aggregation of topics that would be less broad than planet.mozilla.org but still technical in nature. Not immediately clear to me what that specific "core tech" subset would be, though, so need to think about it. As for Project Quantum as a possibility, would that really encompass a suitable body of interest? Would that mean it'd exclude ongoing coverage of the continuation of E10S, for example, which is similarly a core technology topic with broad reach and impact?

We never resolve this actionably, so I'm closing it. AFAICT Planet-as-is seems to be meeting our needs here. If there's enough disagreement with that I'll reopen, but for now I'm wontfixing this.
