User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686 on x86_64; rv:47.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0
Build ID: 20160606114227

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install any of addons like:
https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/addon/youtube-flash-video-player/
or
https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/addon/youtube-flash-player/

and switch video playing to Flash (instead of default HTML5)

2. Install Flash plugin 32 bit from
http://www.filewatcher.com/m/install_flash_player_11_linux.i386.tar.gz.6742944-0.html

3. Go to any webpage with a flash movie (like YouTube) and play the movie

Actual results:

A black box appears instead of video content.

When clicking right mouse button on the black box, it give 2 context menu items:
1) Movie not loaded... (greyed)
2) About Flash Player 11.2.202.626 --- informations... (when click on it, it leads to
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ )

So it seems that Flash is active but for some reason is not displaying video content.

Expected results:

Video content should appear instead of a black box.

Some more info:

The Flash plugin is installed and visible in Firefox.
I don't know if that is a Firefox's bug or Flash's bug or Linux's bug or whatever's.
I also tried on Firefox 46 32bit and Flash does not work too.
I tried on a fresh Firefox profile.

I know Linux is a **** as Desktop ( I repeat - A ****, yeeee I may repeat it 100 times and that still will not be enough) , but I switched from Windows to Linux only because I play Dungeon Keeper 2 which is fantastic game, but which has some trouble running on Windows, and it runs on Linux without such problem. (BTW ironically (to the Flash issue), the problem with the game on Windows is that when the game runs, the game works but half of the screen is... black.)

Then I switched from Firefox 47 64bit to 32bit only because I need Java plugin working (as I still need to use some Java-plugin based webpage), but in Firefox 32bit Flash does not work anymore. When I run Firefox 47 64bit, Flash works again, but Java does not work. I need both Java + Flash.

Some more technical info:

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686 on x86_64; rv:47.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0 (32bit)

OS: Xubuntu 14.04.4 LTS (64bit)

Plugin:
from "about:plugins":

Shockwave Flash (32bit)

    Plik: libflashplayer.so
    Ścieżka: /usr/share/install_flash_player_11_linux.i386/libflashplayer.so
    Wersja: 11.2.202.626
    Stan: Włączony

I also tried 2 alternative Flash plugins:

1) http://pipelight.net/cms/plugin-flash.html

2) http://www.pcworld.com/article/2993902/browsers/how-to-get-the-latest-version-of-flash-on-firefox-for-linux-after-adobes-abandonment.html

But both of them even does not appear in Firefox 32bit plugin section.

I made an image attachment from youtube and also from some other tube and the second one give a corrupted box instead of a black box, and says "Flash plugin failed to load".
http://www.cda.pl/video/52767945 also gives a corrupted video (the corrupted_box attachment)
OK, some strange things happen with this one: after I saved www_cda_pl_corrupted_box screenshoot in GIMP, and went back to the Firefox (I closed GIMP) so Firefox became on top again (got focus)..the corruption video box changed to a different corruption...
After I switched from bugzilla tab to www_cda_pl_corrupted_box tab, the www_cda_pl_corrupted_box tab (from comment 7) is back to the first one (comment 6) again. Maybe the broken-flash issue is a graphic driver/drawing related.
Is seems now, that not only Java plugin gives glitches (Bug 1248125) but also Flash plugin goes crazy. What the...
Now I should go through all porn tubes and see how many kinds of different glitches does Flash plugin generates...

Mistakely I put (in 1st comment) a link to a wrong (older) version of Flash plugin 11.0 r1 from 24.09.2011.

But I meant the current version 11.2 r202 from 27.05.2016,
I don't remember the download link, you have to ask uncle Google.

Anyway I tried the older version 11.0 r1 too and it also does not work.

Does this still happen if you *don't* install addons like youtube-flash-video-player or youtube-flash-player?

In particular in a generic Flash-using page such as https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ is the Flash content black?

Can you please attach your about:support data to this bug? This is clearly not a problem in general, so it has to be something more specific about your hardware or software setup.
Flags: needinfo?(marcino245)
1) Yes, even on a fresh profile with no add-ons installed and no settings changed.

2) No, it is corrupted instead, I attach the screenshoot.

3) OK. I paste it from the fresh profile with no add-ons installed and no settings changed.

The corruption is changing when reloading a webpage.
Again.
Or while minimizing and then maxmizing Firefox, or while covering (by a some other window) and then uncovering Firefox.

Unfortunately, we don't have the engineering bandwidth to prioritize this specific problem. We are working on a more generic solution to Flash issues but that may be several months out. Here are some things you can try in the meantime:

in about:config create a pref "plugins.force.wmode" with the value "opaque".
Make sure your GTK is completely up to date.

If you or somebody figures out what is going on, I'd be happy to look through the explanation and that might be enough to create a simple patch. I will of course accept patches also, but I know that's not reasonable to expect, especially given the complexity of the code interactions here.
Priority: -- → P5
I am no longer involved in fixing the issue, because I completely removed Linux from my PC and switched back to Windows.

Adobe Flash is no longer supported.
