font-rs is a font renderer written in Rust: https://github.com/google/font-rs

It's supposed to be quite a bit faster than freetype, but is still a prototype right now.

font-rs doesn't support postscript outlines, sub-pixel aa, or hinting. I think we should probably wait for servo to switch to this before trying it.
