I use Firefox Nightly on Debian GNU/Linux. When I download a file and try to open it by clicking it from the short list shown in the toolbar, the file seems to open using an unrelated application. When I try to open the same by clicking in the list in the Download Library, it seems to open correctly. I could not find what is going wrong and where the problem lies. Steps to reproduce : 1. Download a file 2. Open by clicking in the download list from toolbar Note: If it opens the file correctly, then download another file that the previous application cannot open and try to open it. Actual Behaviour : File seems to open using unrelated application Expected Behaviour : File must open using the correct application according to the type. I have attached screen shots showing the download list and the error message shown by the unrelated application

This doesn't seem to be happening always. It occurs at random intervals and I have little difficulty in finding the exact situations in which it occurs. I have searched the web for the possible problems and came to know that firefox is now using GIO and thus the file mimeinfo.cache and mimeapps.list have no use now. Can anybody point to any other resources related to this issue.

For some unknown reason removing the list of applications for the mimetype "application/octet-stream" fixed the issue. Closing this as INVALID
