User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:49.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/49.0 Build ID: 20161019084923 Steps to reproduce: I opened a subfolder Lilypond in thunderbird (version 45.4.0; win7) with supposingly 1 unread messages. (the version indicator is faulty!) Actual results: Four messages appeared in bold indicating there were unread. When I clicked on the first message, the count in the folder pane became void, but still the other three messages were in bold letters. Expected results: There should have been a count of 4 in the folder pane.

This morning I experinced another faulty number count: All the messages were read, using the "Schnellfilter" I could not find an unread message in a folder, and still the count indicator was set to 1.

Same as before: Lilypond (11) is shown in the folder panel whereas unread messages could not be found.

The error still happens after 5 years. Something wrong with the quality control!
Kind regards

Do you still see this when using version 115?

Duplicate of bug 1244809 ?
No, it is not... 1244809 refers to a count discrepancy which is resolved once you click on a message.
This bug refers to a counting error which is always present, until user hits Get Messages button to clear the counters entirely.

I don't know about version 115, but it is still present in version 119.0b3 ...
so no, this bug should not be closed, or I will have to re-open it...

Okay, this is with V119.0b3 (64-bit), on Windows 10 Pro...
Note that there are 3 new messages, and the taskbar icon (in lower-left corner) shows 2...
So no, this is not fixed in version 119, thus likely not fixed in version 115 either...

Thanks Daniel for the update.
I think there have been fixes since then. Can you check please if it is better?

Wow, really ?!?!?!
Yeah, it's still here... it's never gone anywhere... nothing has ever been done to address this issue!!
I think everyone else has just given up and accepted that the number on the taskbar icon is meaningless...
Well, okay... I was speaking for 123.0b2 ... I just updated to 123.0b3 ... if this issue is finally addressed, I will post an update over the next couple of days, but as of 123.0b2, no, it was not changed...
In fact, to be honest, it has become even more of an adventure in past few months... when we were first reporting this issue, what we typically saw was that the displayed unread-message count was (2 * actual-unread-message-count)... it's far more creative now!! Especially if the number of new messages is more than... oh... 5 or so, it is almost completely random... sometimes the displayed number is less than the actual number of new messages, other times it is greater... the 2X factor is no longer relevant...
anyway, I will update in a couple of days, once I get mileage on 123.0b3 ... I will include images, as I have in the past.

This bug report is about folder list, not taskbar. So I misunderstood your issue - it's not this bug.

The bug reporter hasn't responded to other bug reports, so expect the same here. We can't verify his status.
