Steps to reproduce:

Windows 7x64, 42.0.1

I have use FF without restart at some days, opened and closed websites. As result 13 tabs is opened and 8400 MB RAM+ROM is eaten.

Steps to reproduce (better use saved session):
1. Open session with 100 tabs
2. Renew all
2.1 Check memory usage
3. Close half of them
3.1 check memort usage


Actual results:

Bad result: FF eats memory without changes


Expected results:

Good result: FF eats less memory

In present time 20 tabs are opened in browser, total work time 24h and about:memory looks so: https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8980502

I see that canvas-2d-pixels decreased to 10 MB from previous 681 MB. Less ghost windows (14 -> 1), less heap-allocated (1300 -> 650), less heap-chunks (2300 -> 1200), less heap-commited (1400 -> 700), less heap-mapped (2300 -> 1200), less hosted-object-urls (24 -> 6) and e.t.c.

I will continue monitoring.

Since you have many add-ons installed on your profile, please try to reproduce it in safe mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Also please try using a more recent version of Firefox. 42.0 is quite old, and the problem may already be fixed in newer versions.
