We have two lists of pinned sites: "positioned" for regular Top Sites and "non-positioned" fo A-S.

Switching to Activity Stream changes which list of pinned sites is displayed, and so the user might perceive this as the browser loosing their pinned sites.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's much we can do about this now. Note that we added a SUMO link to the bottom of top sites to try to avoid confusion.
