crash happens when compiled with '-fomit-frame-pointer' flag, register %a6 (frame pointer) is referenced without making sure it is there. Appended patch fixes it, tested on 0.97 and 0.9.8, gcc-3.0.3

I have tested the patch with 1.0rc1, would be nice to get it into 1.0

patch tested with rc2 and gcc-3.1 in the meantime, works fine
