I just came back from a trip on the east coast and got some excellent feedback on the latest version of our product from some important folks. I'm filing bugs on some of the important issues. When creating a new filter based on Sender, we should be using an autocomplete text field instead of a normal text field. The other criteria should remain unchanged. The person I was talking to was trying to set up a filter for his executive staff and he didn't know any of their email addresses, just there names. He found it extremely frustrating that he wasn't able to just auto complete them like he can for a new mailing list or in the compose window. I suspect it should be pretty easy from an engineering point of view to make the text field an autocomplete widget. Not sure if there are UI issues that come into play.

If we don't want to take something like this for beta1, I think it is worth talking about taking after beta / 1.0.
Keywords: nsbeta1
I think someone already logged a bug about this, will duplicate it to this one.
So, this would apply to all Sender operators ( "is", "contains", ... there are 6 choices) ? Would this apply to filters only or would it apply in the Advanced Search UI, too? cc gayatri for QA-FYI as this would be a new mini feature
Agree this would be a nice feature to have. Autocomplete for: "contains", "doesn't contain", "is", "isn't". But we probably won't want it for "begins with" and "ends with".
Another question for when/if this is implemented: will we also include criteria choices "To", "Cc", "To or Cc" ? It would make sense to be consistent among addressee type of header criteria.

marking nsbeta1-. This is a great idea. We should do it for the next release.

I would say yes.

Product: MailNews → Core
Hy, friends. I have been using this navigator since the old "Netscape". I used several Mozilla Suite versions and now, even being the Firefox good, I prefer SeaMonkey. BUT the auto-complete in yahoo-web-mail (using it's internal address book) is not working and maybe other things like that. Can you fix this, please!? Thanks for keeping this suite alive and improving. Gonzalo
