From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020412 BuildID: 2002041203 With HTML mail, in Outlook, Mozilla is not run as the browser, nor do the links open Mozilla, but instead uses IE. A hack to override Internet Explorer in Outlook would be an extremely helpful feature. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Open Outlook Open an HTML email (optional - Click on a link) Actual Results: Internet Explorer is run as the browser, and when clicking on a link, Internet Explorer opens (instead of the system's default browser, Mozilla). Expected Results: Mozilla should have taken over the links, and/or should have been used as the HTML browser in Outlook instead of Internet Explorer. Microsoft Outlook 2000 SR-1 (9.0.0.5414)

If I click a link in Outlook Express, it opens in Mozilla. (I have Mozilla set as my default browser.) Does this not work in Outlook?
Problem only occurs with HTML email. Plaintext links open correctly in Mozilla. Note: not just XP apps -- all versions and platforms of Outlook have this problem. Thoughts: does Outlook use a DLL to call the browser? If so, this should be an easy hack.

I am seeing this problem as well on Win2K Build 2002050104 and have been for a very long time. This is probably one of my least favorite bugs (not that I have any favorites :o)

Any chance on getting this marked as confirmed? Why is this marked as enhancement? This is definately a bug in my opinion. Perhaps the summary should be changed to more accurately represent the nature of the bug something like: "Internet Explorer launched from HTML mail in Outlook"?
Severity: enhancement → normal
Summary: no browser integration in alternative mail clients such as outlook → Internet Explorer launched from HTML mail in Outlook
It sounds like the new Windows 2000 SP3 and Windows XP SP1 are offering modularity (so that IE and other components can be removed entirely). This MAY fix the problem. Any W2KSP3 beta testers to confirm this?

Any chance of getting this marked as New instead of Unconfirmed?
IEPATCHER does not resolve problems. Upgrading severity to 'major' in the hopes of getting this bug some attention. (Perhaps not the best use of the severity flag, but this needs to be fixed and there's no work on it.)
Severity: normal → major

this cannot be fixed - HTML mail in outlook is displayed using an IE window, which will open other links in more IE windows, and there's nothing mozilla can do to intercept IE internals. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 157921 ***
