From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020408 BuildID: 2002040803 When viewing the page info for a page that uses transparent images with white text on them, these are show against a white background under Page Info/Media. It might be better to use a different background, like the dark grey/light grey checkerboard used by graphics applications. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Go to the given URL and show page info, all menu items will show as the same white rectangle against a white background.

I fail to see how this helps transparent images with white text when the background is still half white. White text is more likely than grey text, and the background should be made up of the lesser-used color.

Using a light/dark grey checkerboard would, in my opinion, work slightly better. The attached image used the colors 0x808080 and 0xC0C0C0. I have also decreased the size of individual blocks to 10x10 (instead of 15x15) as this allows you to make quick judgements on the size of parts of the image.
Comment on attachment 115989 [details] [diff] [review] patch hrm. this approach doesn't work well. paint shop pro lets the user change the pattern colors and the grid size. how about allowing the user to drag the image around? being able to drag the image would allow the user to see a mask (which indicates where transparency would be) as well as letting the user shift across whatever background you provide. the patch is trivial, you can have my review if you want it, but i wouldn't do this it the way you're doing it :)

MASS-CHANGE: This bug report is registered in the SeaMonkey product, but has been without a comment since the inception of the SeaMonkey project. This means that it was logged against the old Mozilla suite and we cannot determine that it's still valid for the current SeaMonkey suite. Because of this, we are setting it to an UNCONFIRMED state. If you can confirm that this report still applies to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it back to the NEW state along with a comment on how you reproduced it on what Build ID, or if it's an enhancement request, why it's still worth implementing and in what way. If you can confirm that the report doesn't apply to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it to the appropriate RESOLVED state (WORKSFORME, INVALID, WONTFIX, or similar). If no action happens within the next few months, we move this bug report to an EXPIRED state. Query tag for this change: mass-UNCONFIRM-20090614

This still applies in my Forefox 3.0.11, and probably still applies in any version that uses a white background. An example image can be found at http://nedbatchelder.com/blog/200801/truly_transparent_text_with_pil.html Specifically, http://nedbatchelder.com/pix/transtext.png
