Steps to reproduce:

my bookmarks and history disappeared, tried to recover them wont work. cant create new ones either. uninstalled and reinstalled mozilla many times  no help. ran troubleshooting and found the  places data base wont verify.

i have also deleted places.sqlite multiple times, no help, still wont validate.
Note that when deleting places.sqlite, it will attempt to re-import bookmarks from the most recent bookmarks backup (in the bookmarkbackups folder in your profile). I wonder if somehow it is restoring bad state? If you want to experiment with that, try shutting down Firefox, rename the bookmarkbackups folder to something else, delete places.sqlite and restart. If that solves the problem and none of your bookmarks are sensitive, you could upload the contents of that folder here for examination.
there isnt a bookmarkbackups folder in current profile, but i renamed the ones in old Firefox data, deleted the places.sqlite file again. bookmarks and history are still inop and places data base still wont verify.
hi, did this happen right after the update to firefox 55 - do you also suffer from slow page loading issues (it might be a duplicate of bug 1388584)
not sure about update to 55, i believe i had auto updates turned on. Yes pages are very slow to load. just like 1388584

how can i install firefox 54 to see if functionally returns.
you can download the old version from https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/54.0.1/win64/
reinstalled 54.0.1 all is good again. bookmarks work and so does the history.
