User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0
Build ID: 20170824100243

Steps to reproduce:

Open any webpage long enough to scroll, or use the attached file.

Actual results:

The scrolling is choppy. It feel like seeing a low fps video. I made a video to compare the scroll between Chrome and Firefox using the attached file : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRCd-xFJrZY

You can see more information here : https://github.com/filman230/bug-webpage

Expected results:

The scrolling should be smooth. The problem occurs with every version of Firefox on Android, except Focus. I can reproduce this bug with a Huawei p9 lite (android 7.0) and an Asus Zenpad 3s 10 (android 7.0).
Hm, works OK for me, but I'm running older Android. Do you only see it on Android 7.0 devices, or on other versions of Android as well? Not sure if you have any handy to test.
My p9 lite has android 6 before, but it was already choppy. I forgot to add that I can reproduce the bug of the video through the emulator of Android Studio.

More details about the emulator here : https://github.com/filman230/bug-webpage/blob/master/Emulator%20details

Can you go to about:config, set layers.acceleration.draw-fps to true, and then reproduce the scrolling problem? I'm interested in the FPS counter in the top-left corner and what the values are approximately when you are scrolling. For me I have no trouble hitting 60 when scrolling on your test page. I know the numbers fluctuate a lot but if you can provide approximate ranges of the numbers you are seeing that would help narrow it down.
I have around 50 fps on every webpages, so it's probably not the problem.

After more investigations, it seem different from a fps problem. When I scroll, the page goes down, then goes up a bit. I made a little animation to show how it feels : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHKEpMvjR34&feature=youtu.be
Hello,

I couldn't reproduce this issue following the steps from the description on the latest Nightly with a Samsung Galaxy S8+(Android 8.0.0), Samsung Galaxy S7(Android 7.0).
Note that I tested this issue using your link from the attachments(https://web.archive.org/web/20161017144432/http://www.lci.fr/sante/le-premier-souffle-a-ete-une-delivrance-adeline-raconte-sa-greffe-des-poumons-2008090.html) and other web sites.

Can you please check if this issue is still reproducible for you using the latest Nightly?

Regards,
Andrei

Hello,

I can't reproduce the bug anymore, but I think it's because of the website. The top bar was supposed to fade when you scroll down and reappear when you scroll up, but it doesn't occur anymore with both Chrome and Firefox.

However, I found this : http://homeomath2.imingo.net/
On this website, the scrolling is particularly choppy. I'm not sure, but maybe it's related to the GIFs of the web page.

I have another example, on https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2017/11/20/extensions-in-firefox-58
At the beginning the scroll is "normal" (still a bit choppy), but when I reach the GIF (in "Android" section), the scroll becomes instantly choppier.

Hello Filman230,

I was able to reproduce this issue using the web sites from the Comment 6 on the latest Nightly(12-Jul-2018) with Sony Xperia Z5(Android 7.0).

Marking this as New.

Hello,

I found a web site with the same behavior as the one I linked in the attachment : https://m.levif.be : the top bar disappears and reappears continuously as I slowly scroll down.
Re-triaging per https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1473195

Needinfo :susheel if you think this bug should be re-triaged.
