Subject: mathML page bug Date: Mon, 27 Sep 1999 13:34:48 -0700 From: Warren Harris <warren@netscape.com> To: kipp@netscape.com CC: leger@netscape.com I've noticed that the layout of this page is all messed up: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/mathml/update.html The images which should be on the right (at least they're that way in 4.6), end up underneath the text. Is there a bug on this, or should I file one? Warren

Doesn't this bug have to get fixed way before m17? This page is unreadable! I think this must get done for beta.
I'm just being honest. I'm 100% on space, and nobody is backing me up, therefore it won't get done until much later.

Perhaps Troy should reassign. It would seem to me that such a visible layout flaw would be embarrassing for beta (although I don't know how prominent use of this floater stuff is).

The page looks alright to me on Linux nightly build 19991006. Could you supply a screenshot?

Things seem to have definitely improved since I first filed this bug. What I was seeing before was all the images were left-justified, and the text was layering on top of them. Now what I'm seeing is that some of the text doesn't wrap in order to not end up on top of the image -- instead it just scrawls right across it. This depends on the width of the window, so resize and check for overlaps. For instance, the following line in the "Attributes" section sometimes exhibits the problem: "A few other tags have their own specific attributes as illustrated below: " I don't have a utility (that I know of) to take a screenshot. Warren
There are two bugs on this page: (1) HR's that are too short (2) Some text overlapping some of the floating elements. The page itself is rather ugly and hard to read given the mixture of large images that have text in them and other text floating nearby...
Why are you re-reassing layout bugs? Do NOT touch layout bugs. The bugs are assigned to Kipp so they can stay neatly organized until we have a new owner for the block/inline code.

this is mostly fixed now (after my checkin for bug 29595, expected 3/22/00 afternoon.) initial layout is good, and most resizing to reasonable widths works. resizing the window very narrow has some oddities, which may or may not be bugs. Will investigate further later.

This bug has been marked "future" because we have determined that it is not critical for netscape6.0. If you feel this is an error, or if it blocks your work in some way -- please attach your concern to the bug for reconsideration.

We probably need a testcase for this; I can't see any problems anymore.

Updated URL to correct testcase.

QA, is this bug still a problem? Mozilla seems to be doing a very good job at rendering this page now. Its rendering is much better than Nav 4.x and IE 5.5 in my observations.
