After using the search option, having my columns preferences set otherwise than
default, they are set back to default.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Choose some message folder. Add thread column, sort by thread & date.
2.Search something on it. Open some item found.
3.Close the search dialog.

Actual Results: The columns are those that come by default, and also the sorting.

Expected Results: The columns I have chosen for that folder, and the sort
column I had.

It is very annoying to set my preferences each time I do a search.
We do not (yet) support threading in search results. So if the search was
initiated from a folder view in threaded mode, the results display in a default
date sort. This is a duplicate, will located the original bug.

I'm sorry, I read this bug as a 3-pane window search and after re-reading, I
believe you're talking about the advanced search window.

Okay, the sort in the original mail window is indeed preserved, however the Open
Message Folder (which is what I'm assuming you're using when you say Open)
incorrectly opens a new mail window which takes on default sort if the original
was threaded.
Summary: After search, columns preferences are not preserved → After search, columns preferences are not preserved (OpenMsgFolder, new window is default sort)
ref: bug 104048 about having a new 3-pane window instead of using existing one.
Well, my English doesn't help here. Let's go again. I have a folder with the
thread option on, sorted by thread/date (descending). I press the button
"Advanced..." in the search section of the messages pane. I do a search that I
know will return several matches. Many match, indeed, and they show in the
search window; I don't care whether there's the thread tree there, I just choose
some message from the results, double clicking on, say, the first one. That
message opens in a new window; I close it, close the search window as well, and
I come back to the original, main three pane mail window. I see that one message
is marked as unread, with no reason. I click on some other folder, and then
immediately come back to the folder I performed the search on. The thread column
is no longer there. The messages are not sorted by thread, obviously, but
neither by date. I have to select back the thread column to make it visible,
sort it all again, all of this everytime I perform a search, which is annoying.
OK, better description. I see it's not tied to Open Message Folder.
