Brendan mentioned in netscape.public.mozilla.jseng today that the JS_InitClass return value remarks in the Spidermonkey docs is misleading. His suggested rewording is "|JS_InitClass| returns a pointer to a JS object that is the prototype for the newly initialized class." Patch for the Spidermonkey APIDOC is coming up.
