A few people are seeing a weird issue with not being able to uninstall jre 1.4.0_01 on their win2k boxes. They are using Nscp 7 candidate build (2002-08-23-10-1.0)) and seeing this issue. What happening is, basically, they cannot seem to run the 1.4.0_01 uninstaller from 'Add Remove Progs' under the control panel. The uninstaller just quits after starting off. Manually removing the registry entries and all folders related to java (javasoft under prog files) does not help. If one tries to downlaod the same jre from sun's site, the installer pops up an alert dialog saying "the same jre was detected, would you like to uninstall it " ? clicking 'ok' quits the installer and clicking 'cancel' also quits the installer and nothing happens. :-( However, downloading and installing the jre 1.4.1 RC1 build from the sun site works fine(plugin files get copied over automatically, applets are rendered within the browser just fine). (there is an additional entry in the add/remove programs folder for this new jre, however the older one, 1.4.0_01 also stays) Can any of the Sun engineers comment on this behaviour ? Is there any known issue with the Jre 1.4.0_01 uninstaller and why it may fail ? This is a minor issue but still a bad one. Pls note that not everyone is seeing this issue. Just some random people who either have too many nscp builds (test builds) or even those who only have nscp4.7 and nscp7 preview release(with jre 1.4.0_01) and a current candidate build ( Rtm build) installed.
Below here is the message from William.Harnois@Sun.COM: Here is some info on how to manually remove 1.4.0_01 in this situation: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/install-windows.html#troubleshooting We don't see this very often, but we have had customer complaints. It is not reproducible in any other release. -Bill

Bugs reported here should be about Mozilla - not Netscape. From the description, it doesn't even sound like a Netscape problem but, if it is, it should be reported here: http://wp.netscape.com/browsers/7/feedback/problem.html
