could not reliably reproduce, but experience error every now and then. might be site-related. experienced in both linux and windows, os->all. the mailserver in question is imap.web.de via imaps, using their own ca. i have not yet imported the ca in this profile, not sure if related. will try that later. grepping mozilla's sourcetree i discovered the message in mozilla/security/manager/ssl/resources/locale/en-US/pipnss.properties. the error pops up a message regardless of whether mailnews was the active window.

Error -12263 is "SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length." Reporter, can you try a new profile to see if this might be a problem on the client side?

i have not yet had any luck reproducing this error, neither with a new profile nor with my old one, it might also be serverside or related to my connection (my imap.web.de connectivity is usually less than 100% reliable). i'll update as soon as i encounter it again.

it seems web.de have migrated from selfsigned (trust.web.de) to thawte-signed certificates. not sure if this really is related, but wfm is fine since the bug did not show up again.
