Windows like bookmarks, the tabs, etc used to have backgrounds like explorer
background colors.
Now they're white.

That's a step backwards.

Funny thing is when eg. changing sidebar tabs, it starts off correct, then turns
white.

Also, in forms like this one, the lists, combos, are OK, but this text box is
again white for some reason...

sounds like some kind of chrome corruption.. Which theme does this happen with? 
If you quit mozilla and delete XUL.mfl (in your profile dir) - then restart:
Does the bug still appear?
Deleted.

No change.

I'm using the default theme.
Could you attach a screenshot?
the top right window is a Windows explorer window which shows the correct
Windows background color
Reporter, are you still experiencing this problem with Mozilla 1.3b or later?
Waiting for final 1.3.  Is there a reason I'm needed to try a beta?

This should be easy for any developer to reproduce.
