Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312

When started as the default browser, Mozilla fails to connect to any site. When
started through the Mozilla shortcut, it works OK.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. On XP, click Start > Internet
   or
Click Start > Run and type a URL.
2. Try to open a remote web page.

Actual Results:
Mozilla errors with "Unable to connect to ....".

Expected Results:
Connect to the site.

When a working Mozilla instance has been started, the Start > Run procedure works.
I have a LAN and I use a VPN connection to access the Internet.
Severity: major → critical
What is an example of an external link? I usually ask people to use AIM or a
link from Outlook Express.

Also, can you put the full text of the error message. That is not the usual
error message.
Summary: no connection when started as a default browser or through external link → Conn: default browser or external link "Unable to connect to ...."
Actual error message is:
"The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.mozilla.org."

An external link is a link, clicked in an external application (e.g., Outlook).

I also discovered that Mozilla never fails to access servers on the local
network. It only fails with Internet servers (accessed through VPN).
Reporter, do you still get this error with Firefox 1.0.2? If not, the bug is
probably fixed and can be closed. Thanks.
