The Phoenix project page sets some specific font families and a "font-size: 90%"
on the main text.  The "90%" setting is a gratuitous insult to the user (who
prefers reading text at the "100%" setting, clearly) and it just so happens that
the font families selected look terrible at the smaller font sizes that 90%
produces in a default Mozilla install.

Removing either of the decls makes the page actually readable; I would suggest
removing the "90%".

The 90% setting was added because Tahoma and Verdana doesn't really look good in
16px size, which is the current default in Mozilla. Of course, I could specify
exactly what size I want, but that's even more insulting.

I'm not so sure about that. The current default font size is huge (16 pixels)
and makes most fonts look too large.

Of course, I can change this anyway since you're the bosses, but is it really
that much of a problem?

They look great at 16px size over here, and terrible at the smaller font size.

More to the point, the upcoming changes to the mozilla.org style guide
explicitly say that neither font-family nor font-size should be changed from
user preferences for main body text.

In other words, the real fix is to remove both font-family and font-size from
the stylesheet and not just one of them as you originally proposed?

(Which will make the pages look boring again, defaulting to Times New Roman. :-\ )
