It would be very nice to be able to have the ability to link to external
bookmark files (i.e. over SAMBA/NFS), and have them appear as a folder within
the local bookmark file.

i.e. our company does web design, and we have 20-30 folders with each site in
that folder (both develpoment & live version of the site & other links
pertaining to to the site). It would be very cool to have this linkable AND
changeable from all phoenix clients.

Pretty sure, that this is not planned and will never be done. This type of
functionality is perfect for an extension. Go to the mozillazine forums and
request this there.
