User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030507 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030507 It seems impossible to play a media file from the local computer with windows media. I get an error saying that the format is not supported. But if I try the same code on a webserver it works. This is however not the case if I run the code in MSIE. Both on my local computer and at an webserver. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a html file with a standard code on it. 2. Try to load it from the local filesystem... It won't work. 3. Try to load the same code and media file from a webserver... Works.
What happens when you type about:plugins? If there is no plugin assigned to handle the "application/x-mplayer2" type then obviously it won't work. You may need to reinstall WMP to ensure that the plugin is there. Reassigning to plugins

I have similar problem when I try to access webcasts on www.sap.com. Their web page shows in the video frame: embed type="solication/x-mplayer2". However, no such plug-in is registered, therefore Mozilla offers me to get the plug-in from Microsoft Windows official web page. But if I open the same web page (www.sap.com) from IE, it works. The plug-in is registered on my computer as "application/x-mplayer2". IE is able to manage this confusion, but Mozilla is not. I need to save the frame, open it in notepad, change the value to: embed type="application/x-mplayer2" and then I can watch it with Mozilla. I attached a part of the frame source: value="mms://wwwmedia.sap.com/replay/community/2004_05_sapphire_us/2004_05_SAPPHIRE_US_NET003_175k.wmv"> <embed type="solication/x-mplayer2" pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/MediaPlayer/"
