User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030718
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030718

This is a problem with Mozilla 1.5 alpha that did not exist in 1.4. Sometimes,
infrequently, when I launch Mozilla a window pops up telling me that Mozilla is
not my default browser and asking me if I want to make it so. Mozilla is already
my default browser. If I select [Yes] the borwser continues to open, but it does
not load the sidebar. If I click [Yes], then close the browser and reopen it
there is no message and the sidebar loads as normel. If I select [Cancel] the
sidebar does not subsiquently load. If I select [Cancel[ and close the browser,
upon reopening it the same message appears and the sidebar does not load.

Work around: select [Yes] to make Mozilla the default browser, close the
browser, and reopen it.

I used Mozilla 1.4 for some time [in build years] and never had this problem. I
have just downladed 1.5 beta and hope the problem will have been resolved, but
saw no mention of it in the new features and known issues reports.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Launch Mozilla. Maybe it will happen; maybe it won't. Odds favor won't
2.
3.

Actual Results:
When Mozilla fails to recognizew itself as the default browser, it does not load
the sidebar

Expected Results:
Recognized that it already was the default browser, launched normal, loaded the
sidebar.
I installed Mozilla 1.5 beta after writing the above bug report. I was not
encouraged when I opened the new version for the first time and was greeted with
the same fault. I was using the basic (standard) theme at the time. I have used
other themes, and the problem occurs using any theme, eliminating themes as a
factor.

I thought before updating my report to reflect the install of Mozilla 1.5 beta
that I would wait to see if the new version would exhibit the fault again. It
just did. I have been using it a lot over the past few days and this is the
first time it has happened again. Therefore, I do not know how to replicate the
problem. It does not mater if I launch Mozilla from the Start Menu or from a
desktop icon, or from a hotlink within a program or an e-mail, or from clicking
on a file in a folder. It happens randomly; how I open the program seems to have
no effect.

To reiterate, there are three parts to this launch bug.

1. Browser window opens in another area than it was last opened. This is a
tip-off. Normally Mozilla opens in the same window location on the desktop where
it was last opened.

2. A small alert window pops up saying that Mozilla is not the default browser,
when in fact it already is.

3. The sidebar does not load.

Work-around: click [Yes] to the *make Mozilla the default browser* querry, close
the browser, and reopen the browser. It will then open normally without the
pop-up window and with the sidebar loaded.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
