I have started experiencing this problem from build 20030820. The behaviour 
continues in the current build (20030901). Every mail I send requires me to 
login again. I have not asked Thunderbird to remember my password. 

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Compose new mail
2.Send Mail
3.Login box appears

Actual Results:  
Required login

Expected Results:  
Just gone back to the logged in mail box.

Default theme, no crash, Toshiba Portege R100 notebook with WinXP

Similar problem on PC running XP and T'bird 1.5.  Upon opening, as expected, I get a dialogue box asking for password.  No problem here, but after composing a message and pressing "send" the dialogue box re-appears asking for password again.  Once given, T'bird does not request the password to send subsequent messages.

I think this bug is WFM. I did not ask Thunderbird to remember my password, Thunderbird asked me once and for the rest of the session sending of mail didn't cause the login dialog to come up.

Latest 3.0a2pre Mac build on Leopard.
