User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030917
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030917

I am using Courier IMAP, so all folders are subfolders of the INBOX. All the
subfolders of the INBOX remember their expanded/collapsed state between
running/quitting of Mozilla.

But expandable folders inside the expanded folder of the INBOX are not
remembered. They collapse upon re-running Mozilla. (they are shown visible
before the password is entered, then collapse).

eg:
INBOX
 - Drafts
 - Sent
 v Software
   - mozilla
v bugzilla <-- These types of folders are the problem
     - bugs
     - webtools

Message count information is lost as well (new/total counts) until clicking on
the folder.

And the sort view is lost in those folders (thread view, etc).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open mail
2. Expand a subfolder
3. Expand a subfolder in the folder from step 2
4. Open folder in subfolder from step 3
5. Set view by threads
6. Note message counts in folder from step 4
7. Quit Mozilla completely
8. Run Mozilla and enter Mail
9. Enter password
10. Expansion of folder from step 3 is now collapsed, so expand it
11. After expanding, no message counts are displayed -- enter same folder from
step 4
12. Note that the thread view is not remembered

Actual Results:
(actual results are listed in steps to produce)

Expected Results:
Expect Mail to remember the state of the expanded/collapsed folders in the
folder pane, and remember the message counts and view settings for all
folders.Expect Mail to remember the state of the expanded/collapsed folders in
the folder pane, and remember the message counts and view settings for all folders.
Perhaps a clue:

From this example:

INBOX
 - Drafts
 - Sent
 v Software
   - mozilla
   v bugzilla
     - bugs
     - webtools
   > sourceforge
   v operating-systems
      - linux
      - amigaos

After closing with the view like above, rerunning Mozilla and going to Mail
shows this:
INBOX
 - Drafts
 - Sent
 v Software
   - mozilla
   > bugzilla
   > sourceforge
   > operating-systems

If I collapse and re-expand the Software folder, it results in correctly
displaying the collapsed/expanded folders inside the Software folder:

INBOX
 - Drafts
 - Sent
 v Software
   - mozilla
   v bugzilla
     - bugs
     - webtools
   > sourceforge
   v operating-systems
      - linux
      - amigaos

The message counts are still not there though, and the view state is still not
remembered.
I remember David fixed the first instance of this a while back...Seems like
there's something lingering, not sure.
This appears to be working correctly in Build 2003092704 (just downloaded today).

I have the similar problem with Tbird 0.6 but there doesn't appear to be any
memory (opening and closing folders doesn't seem to change the result).

So annoying. This an other bugs make me want to drop Mozilla/Tbird...
did you try tbird .7? This works fine for me with a .7 build.
Yes, I'm using 0.7.2, Win98SE.

Thread view is sometimes not remembered. Expansion/collapse is never
remembered. Message unread counts are not correct.

It appears this occurs when Windoze crashes and Tbird doesn't close normally.
Compacting used to help but not it doesn't seem to force the current state of
the mailbox.
Product: Browser → Seamonkey
My PC crashed and I had to restore my mail folders. After this and the latest
version of T-bird, I no longer have the problem.

Tested again in Thunderbird, version 2.0.0.14 (20080421)

I tested the expansion and sorting - both were remembered properly after closing Thunderbird and reopened.
