Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007

Some error messages that occur with the SSL protocol are USELESS.

E.g. a web site request a client certificate, you send one but
it is refused because of a bad CA or it is expires : you get a
small dialog with "SSL error -11417" (or something alike) which
does not give the user a clue about what is the problem.

I had other problems with client certificates, and NEVER found
any help with the error messages.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. import an obsolete client certificate
2. connect to a web site which requires this certificate
3. watch the error message in the dialog box

Actual Results:
the error message cannot lead to the actual problem.

Expected Results:
It should have given a proper error message, not "error number -11471" or
whatever the number.

Shouldn't the Severity be changed from 'Normal' to 'Enhancement' ?

(Reporter)
Could you attach the involved client certificate(s) and the URL(s) to reproduce
the behaviour ?
