I think that when a link is middle-clicked in chatzilla it should open a tab in
the browser window (instead of doing nothing). I believe this because I have
chosen 'middle-click opens new tab' in the preferences (albeit the browser
settings).

As there is an option to 'open link in a new tab' in the right-click context
menu anyway, wouldn't be easy enough to have middle-clicking perform this (if it
were chosen in browser prefs)?

Basically, whatever is chosen regarding tabbed browsing in the main Mozilla
prefs should be replicated in a chatzilla window (unless there is a very very
good reason for not replicating - I am aware of none).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Middle Click any link in Chatzilla 0.9.54

Actual Results:
Makes the link clicked active, but doesn't do anything with the link.

Expected Results:
A tab should've been opened (or a new browser window if one wasn't present) and
the location of the URL should be displayed.
Confirming, it seems valid and I found no dup. Adjusting summary.
I'll look into this; if there is no patch within a week I've given up.

Summary: Chatzilla should use suite-wide preferences as far as tabs are concerned → Chatzilla should open new tab on middle click (use suite tab preferences)
metz2000 and all:
Ok, I think this bug report actually covers two issues: respecting the Browser
prefs and doing something on middle-click.
So instead of hijacking it for my plans, I'll properly split it.

I just filed bug 231621 for adding a middle-click action to chatzilla, Patch
will be posted soon. I heard Silver would like such a patch.

This bug here is now about Chatzilla using the Browser prefs for middle-click,
ctrl-click etc.

What most people do not know is that chatzilla has its own such prefs:
http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/extensions/irc/xul/content/prefs.js#97
there is a new prefs window coming that displays those prefs to the user.
I heard Chatzilla people have yet to decide if these prefs should still stay in
chatzilla or if they might be removed in favor of the browser prefs. Maybe a
possible standalone chatzilla should also be taken into account, here...

Maybe this bug will therefore become a wontfix - or maybe you, metz2000,
consider it sufficient what bug 231621 does and close this bug here. It's yours,
so...
Summary: Chatzilla should open new tab on middle click (use suite tab preferences) → Chatzilla should use browser tab preferences (middle-click, ctrl-click,...)
