Summary: if you enter http://ftp+!"#¤%&()/.gemal.dk/ into the url it becomes http://www.ftp+!"#¤%&().com/.gemal.dk/ → if you enter http://ftp+!"#€%&()/.gemal.dk/ into the url it becomes http://www.ftp+!"#€%&().com/.gemal.dk/
[moving to Networking, this sounds like URL resolution...]

The location bar first tries what you typed, then tries www.*.com to see if
that's a host. If that fails, it should complain (which is another bug). The
final thing displayed in the location bar should probably be the original url
though.

With the partial fix for bug 19313 I attached to that bug it now reports a
malformed URI in this case.
closing this out. 4.x displays the www.*.com attempt

Sorry, domain guessing doesn't belong in networking. Reduces the clutter in my
