I would like to see the option of tabs being opened in the same window on
another in the background.  Whenever you click a link it automatically just goes
straight to a new tab, or in the address bar.  Just an option to do would make a
great enhancement.

There already is a "Load links in the background" preference.
Does that not do what you are asking for?
