Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/124 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/125 Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5 (20040208) The LDAP components in Thunderbird seem to use the cn attribute for name display, rather than "givenName sn". An example would be my entry in my local directory. My DN is "cn=Costomiris Jason, ou=addressbook, dc=jasons, dc=org". My object has the sn value of Costomiris, and a givenName value of Jason. Rather than displaying my name as "Jason Costomiris" in the To or CC fields, it is displayed as "Costomiris Jason". That's great and fine for countries where it is common to refer to people in that manner, but in other countries, such as the US, it is customary to use "givenName sn". Mac OS X's Address Book.app & Mail.app behave this way if you'd like to see an example of what I'm talking about. It would be nice if you'd offer a toggle under the LDAP server settings to use "givenName sn" or "sn givenName", rather than simply taking the cn value. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Setup a directory entry that has cn=lastname firstname style entries 2. Setup Thunderbird to query that directory 3. Use the directory Actual Results: Described above Expected Results: Also described above

I believe defaulting to the name attribute is better (see bug 241220), but agree that configuration options would be nice.

(In reply to comment #1) > I believe defaulting to the name attribute is better (see bug 241220), but agree > that configuration options would be nice. Agreed; displayName is the way a lot of LDAP client apps are going.
