I'm sharing Firefox profile for two machines and profiles are on
F:\D&S\USER\Profile\Firefox\ProfileName . When I downloaded and runned new
nightly with Import Wizard it:
1) Displayed possiblity to import from Mozilla but failed to go on after
pressing button "next"
2) Created new profile in C:\Documents And Settings\USER\Application Data
instead migrating info about profile location from Phoenix one.
Component: Installer → Migration
Adding:

Import wizard fails to work at all. Choosing File --> Import... (any
selection) then next doesn't do anything. There is no easy way to import
favorites/bookmarks into Firefox through the GUI. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED
IMMMEDIATELY.
Severity: normal → major
Using profile migrator for FF0.8 to current nightly build Mozilla/5.0 (Windows;
U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040329 Firefox/0.8.0+ does convert
all data for me. Also with bookmarks i can't recognize any problems.

One major thing which has to be fixed immediately is storing the profile in the
right folder and not into the default profile folder! This has to be fixed till
0.9 otherwise a lot of people will give us negative feedback.

-> blocking 0.9?

Happened to me as well.

On a clean install, using the official nightly build (04-04-2004), the wizard
doesn't work. Didn't change anything to the settings, except for using the
custom install, with the developer tools.

Rebooting doesn't help.

Didn't change profile location nor install location.

I tried creating a new profile, as explained by the instructions (using the -p
option), but the new profile also gets this bug. This PC has never used mozilla
before.

Mozilla was set as the default browser.

Note: I'm using win 2k, latest version
Okay, so what is the exact bug here? It seems like:

a) Firefox doesn't create the new profile in the same custom location. This is
minor and I don't think we'll fix this for the sake of people migrating from
before 0.9 Such is beta software. Negative feedback is possible, but its a
small subset of users that actually store profiles in alternate locations. That
isn't enough to block 0.9.

or

b) Import is totally horked (please try a current nightly build)

or

c) option to import from Mozilla/Netscape option is busted (please try a
current nightly build)

I filed Bug 243860. Might that be related to this issue here?
also true in Win98 and Win2000. Also, no option to change profile path as in
previous versions
on Windows XP with build from 20040422 I can proceed through the import dialogs
(Import Settings and Data From, Select Profile & Items to Import). But at the
Importing... window, nothing happens. The import usually takes just a moment.

The Cancel button is greyed out, so ou have to X out of the window.

note: I am able to import bookmarks via the Bookmark Manager | File | Import.
Bookmark Manager import uses the system file picker to select the file.
FireFox 1.0PR on WinXP is failing to import settings from my Mozilla 1.6
profile. The import wizard reports success, it's just that nothing happens. The
Moz was/is from a zipfile rather than an installer; don't know whether that
would make any difference but it seems increasingly uncommon these days.
Please disregard last comment (#8) - it was late and I was (apparently) confused
by UI changes since my previous FF build. Import from Moz is in fact working
fine. Apologies.

Love the new "Quick Searches" bookmark UI, btw.
I am using Firefox on OS X, and the import bookmark wizard does not go beyond
step one when I select import from file, the wizard just disappears.

still problems with thunderbird and firefox 1.0.x (all versions) when migrating from mozilla (seamonkey):
old mozilla 1.7.xx profile is in %APPDATA%, which is redirected to \\server\username\.winprofile\Anwendungsdaten\...
the import wizard in both tb and ff does not offer any import options (i.e. it fails to notice there is an old moz profile).

i'd love to see this fixed, since we have > 25 users that need to be migrated. a workaround solution would also be ok.

hope it still makes sense to follow up on this bug, even though it is so old. pointers to more current bugs and/or documentation welcome.

works now with tb and ff 1.5 on windows xp. the import wizard is there, and all data is imported flawlessly. thanks heaps, this is a big help for our administration chores!
I too have had issues with the latest Thunderbird import wizard(1.5.0.9) (from Mozilla 1.7.13). Email was not imported although my address books were. One unusual thing I had done historically was a rebuild of the index files after a windows 98 crash. I installed 2000 on the machine and took the email and profile data off the hard drive and put in in the appropriate folders. When Mozilla didn't recognize it, I searched the help pages untill I found the instructions on rebuilding the email index. Hope this contributes to the discussion. Please send out word when the thunderbird import wizard is fixed - I look forward to upgrading!
This migrator is long gone.
