I see this too, using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040427 The problem is that the embeded flash is not played. The relevant line in this page is: <embed src="mm_zoom01.swf" quality="high" ... />

I sent a support query to Yahoo requesting information about whether they intend to support Firefox/Mozilla in the future. The resonse I received in part was: -- As you've noticed, we're currently experiencing some technical difficulties. We are working to bring Yahoo! Avatars into compatibility with the Netscape, Opera and Mozilla browsers. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. -- From this canned response, it looks like support is at least planned though much of the rest of the email was explaining to me how I could "upgrade" to Internet Explorer. I live in hope.

This bug should be evangelism as it's not, AFAICT, a bug with the browser.

I fired off another message at the Yahoo staff: "I'm writing to submit a small complaint. Recently, I switched my desktop PC from Microsoft Internet Explorer to Mozilla's latest browser, Firefox. When I tried to select an avatar from Yahoo Messenger 6, your site refused, stating that "Yahoo! Avatars doesn't currently support your operating system and/or browser." Reviewing the site requirements below, it appears that all that is really needed is a standards-compliant browser with the latest Flash plugin. Firefox is one of those browsers, and Macromedia has led the way in offering support for it, turning out Unix and Windows versions of the Flash and Shockwave plugins for Firefox. The browser is supported by Java and RealPlayer, as well. There have also been over 11 Million downloads of Firefox to date. Yahoo! has also done a wonderful job of supporting Unix and its variants in the past, even writing a port of Yahoo Messenger (much to the chagrin of Bill Gates, I'm sure). So now I'm here to ask you to continue that trend. All that's required to correct this issue is to change the rules on the filter page. It's something so quick and easy to do that I'm surprised you haven't already. So please, take this message to heart, and don't turn your back on us for refusing to let Microsoft monopolize the Internet. (I'm using this means of submitting my message as I am unable to find another way to contact anyone. If this should find its way into the wrong department (i.e. Tech Support), please forward it to the appropriate personnel. Thank you.)" (Submitted via the tech support area, because they didn't have a published contact address that I could find) The battle continues...

I was able to create/view large Yahoo! Avatars with Firefox 1.0.x including 1.0.7, but since upgrading to Firefox 1.5 Beta 2, that capability has disappeared. I have a feeling this is more of an issue with Macromedia Flash (or version compatibility), as none of the flash sites now work after upgrading to 1.5 Beta 2.

(In reply to comment #10) > I was able to create/view large Yahoo! Avatars with Firefox 1.0.x including > 1.0.7, but since upgrading to Firefox 1.5 Beta 2, that capability has > disappeared. I have a feeling this is more of an issue with Macromedia Flash (or > version compatibility), as none of the flash sites now work after upgrading to > 1.5 Beta 2. Looks like AdBlock 0.5.2.039's behavior changed after upgrade. Disabling AdBlock allows the Avatar (and other flash content) to be viewed.
