At least on Windows its now quite common for applications to not allow a cancel once they've begun to copy files. There's always the uninstaller. Not really sure if this is so important for Firefox 1.0.

Confirming: (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608 In the latest builds, the cancel button is never active, its always disabled.

this is especially a problem when the automatic update kicks in and wants to close all open firefox windows which can lead to data being lost when the installer kills the open browser windows.

The installer isn't used for Software Update anymore (e.g. comment #4). Comment #1 is correct and we don't allow canceling an install once it has started. Resolving -> WONTFIX
