New install of MacOS X 10.2.8 -- Mozilla 1.7 always starts in offline mode, with
a warning box that the page (my selected home page) cannot be displayed offline.
 I must click the online/offline button in the status bar in order to go online.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Mozilla - it happens every time.

Actual Results:  
Mozilla starts in offline mode.

Expected Results:  
Start in online mode - the same mode it was in when I quit it the last time I
used it.

Do you have mailnews installed? The prefs UI for offline/online are "hidden"
under Edit->Preferences / Mail & Newsgroups -> Offline & Diskspace

(It should be accessible also in browser-only installs: bug 202529) 

If you do have mailnews installed: What is checked for the offline prefs?
("Remember previous online state..." ?  "Ask me for online state..." ?)

I do have Mail/News installed and the prefs UI for offline is set to "Remember
previous online state".  However, my browser is always "online" when I quit it.

By setting the option to "always ask" I am able to start the browser in online
mode -- however clicking the button each time from there is no different than
clicking the "go online" button when the browser automatically starts in offline
mode.  After using this to start my browser in online mode, I then unchecked it
(went back to "remember previous online state") and restarted the browser.  It
again started incorrectly in offline mode.

Filter for "offline" and "online" and copy the entries here.

Sorry for the delay.  I had uninstalled Mozilla 1.7 and was using Firefox 0.9
instead.  I have re-installed Mozilla 1.7.  With a brand new profile, it seems
to be working correctly.  But when I had the problem before, the only thing that
was not "new" in the profile was the bookmarks.html file, brought over from the
Windows version of Mozilla 1.7.  Everything else should have been new.

Well anyway, it's working well now with a fresh profile, so thanks for the tip.

WFM -> we never got the about:config info, but the behavior was consistent with the usage of network.online=false.

This might have been set somewhere in the old profile (which the reporter described has having been shared by several apps. Firefox didn't support offline, it probably just ignored the value.
