I just wanted to create two different Profiles (using the same POP3/IMAP4
account), these profiles should contain different displayed names, email
adresses, attached signatures and so on...
but if the usernames (used to fetch new emails from mail server) are equal, the
first account is "overwritten", in fact it only changes its displayed account
name and the other properties don´t change, the account name on the account
managers right side doen not change too... and most important, no seconde
profile is created
i forgot, I use the official Milestone M13 on Win2000, but that bug occours in
older builds too

Are you actually creating different profiles or creating additional accounts?
I'm confused because different profiles have different prefs, so they can't
overwrite each other.

some of this behavior may have changed in M14, I changed some related
code....can you try an M14 build on or after 1/26/00?

URL: n/a
also to clarify, were the hostnames different? How about the type (imap vs.
pop?)
ok, i tried out the 2000012715 build (win2000), if I now try to create a second
(IMAP,
both are IMAP) account, it is not created really...
(remember one account has already been created)
1. I opened account settings
2. clicked "New Account"
3. filled everything out and clicked finish
4. in the account a list a new (identical to the first account with the same
mail user name) account appeared at the end of the list, clicked OK
5. opened Account Setup again
6. saw that the second entry has been deleted already by mozilla (in fact the
stored(?) data in this account was identical to the first account)

you haven't explained if the usernames or hostnames were different or not.
Please give me more details of all the accounts you have set up. I need to know
how many accounts you have, what type each one is, and what hostname each one is
(or if you don't want to tell me the exact username/hostnames,just make them up,
but be consistent so I know if you're doing 2 IMAP accounts on the same server,
with the same or different userid, and so forth.

We do not support two different 'accounts' with the same exact username,
hostname, and server type, at the same time.
moving to M15 unless I get more information

"We do not support two different 'accounts' with the same exact username,
hostname, and server type, at the same time." - but why?
That´s my case and it makes sense to allow two different "accounts", to use
different standard mail attachements, different emails (if other accounts
redirect emails to this account), different organziation infos.
I use in fact the same mail server and the same user name.
As long this "bug" or leak of functionality will be fixed (if it will be fixed),
i´ll try to use different mail server types on the same account. As i could
understand it from your email, it must be possible to set up two different
accounts if mail server types are different.
Sorry, that's just how it works :( it's just the way the product was
designed.... servers are unique by (type, username, hostname) combination..

but users aren´t unique by type, hostname und username, if a user owns multiple
domains and adminstrates them from one central account emails are forwarded to
and if he wants not to choose only a different sender in his emails, if he wants
to attach different attachments, if he wants to have different firms in the
header, then he only can choose to make the first identity a POP3 and the second
one an IMAP identity and if he wants more he has to create a completly profile?
(from which he can´t access folders, can he?)
what you're talking about is having multiple IDENTITIES, not multiple LOGINS to
the same mail server. In the case of logging into mail servers, users are in
fact unique by username, hostname, and type. I can't have TWO imap accounts with
username "alecf", on hostname "imap.isp.com" - that's the same login account.

Internally we have support for multiple identities per account, but we won't be
exposing this via the UI for the first release unless someone can contribute a
good interface... I know it sucks, but it makes this just complex enough.. If
you would like to contribute a UI (and write it in XUL/JS) we might be able to
work something out.
