User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040803
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040803

This is similar to 219754, but I couldn't find any solutions listed there are
in related links.

Whenever I open Netscape (which defaults to mail/news reader), it asks me for my
Master Password, three times. I have checked the Master Password page (under
Preferences...) and under "Mozilla will ask for your MP..." I have checked "The
first time it is needed."

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Close Netscape
2. Open Netscape
3. Bang head on keyboard ;)

Actual Results:
It asks me thrice for my Master Password.

Expected Results:
Opened up quietly.
Correction. It only asks three times for the password if you press cancel (after
the third time, you have to enter the password for the mail server). If you
enter the password on any of the three chances, it doesn't ask for any passwords
until you close/re-open the program.
You're confusing me. Are you switching back and forth between Netscape 7.1 and
a Mozilla build? If so, are you using separate profiles?

OK, my bad. Everything should read Mozilla. I am using Mozilla 1.7.2, only. No
switching. No separate profiles. No Netscape. I don't know how I got "Netscape"
in my head. My apologies.
so, you're saying that it asks for the master password when it shouldn't (and
then asks another couple of times if you try and cancel). If that's right, how
is this different from bug 219754 (or bug 247417)?
Summary: Netscape continues to ask for Master Password → Mozilla continues to ask for Master Password

Well, I guess it isn't different, except that it reads:

"Unless I hear differently from you, I'll assume that this has been fixed by the
checkin for bug #247417 and mark this as WORKSFORME."

#247417 has a bunch of stuff that I don't understand, but seems to claim that
the bug is fixed (as of 7-29).

Since I downloaded the program only three days ago, it obviously is not.

Sorry for the confusion, but I thought I would submit a bug to bring it back to
someone's attention.

well, you've understood the useful bit then :)

the bug is fixed on the trunk, and in thunderbird, but it has been fixed in the
1.7 builds.

Is this supposed to read "but it has NOT been fixed in the 1.7 builds"?

Thanks for looking into it all and tolerating my cluelessness.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
